Wikipedia Editor Allegedly Whitewashed Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed
Researchers accuse an anonymous Wikipedia editor of scrubbing controversies from the page of Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed before the general election.
Researchers Ashley Rindsberg and Yehuda Teitelbaum identified a series of edits to the Wikipedia page of Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed that allegedly whitewashed his public record before the general election. The edits, attributed to an anonymous user under the pseudonym CopyleftEverything, removed details regarding El-Sayed's lack of a medical license and deleted paragraphs describing tensions between the Senator-elect and Michigan's Jewish community.
The editor also softened descriptions of left-wing influencer Hasan Piker, who had appeared with El-Sayed. Beyond the Senator-elect's page, CopyleftEverything made numerous modifications to entries for the American Communist Party, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and the Revolutionary Communists of America.
Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger stated that the discovery of these edits served as a criticism of how the platform currently operates. Teitelbaum characterized the edits as an organized effort to change the national narrative and portray dishonest ideas rather than a random attempt to correct the public record.
