Relapse Exploit Enables PS2 Emulation on PlayStation 5

The Relapse exploit allows PlayStation 5 consoles to be jailbroken, enabling the installation of the PS5SX2 emulator for PlayStation 2 games.

The Relapse exploit allows Sony Interactive Entertainment PlayStation 5 consoles running firmware 13.60 or earlier to be jailbroken. The exploit targets a WebKit vulnerability in the system's built-in web browser, enabling users to install unsigned packages from USB drives. Because the jailbreak is not persistent, users must repeat the process after every reboot, and the exploit blocks access to the PlayStation Network.

Homebrew developers have utilized this vulnerability to release PS5SX2, a PlayStation 2 emulator based on the PCSX2 project. Version 2.01 of the emulator introduces a disc-dumping feature that allows the console to read and copy physical DVD-based PS2 discs to internal storage. However, the PS5 optical drive's inability to read CDs means that CD-based PS1 and PS2 titles remain unsupported.

For users with the PS5 Pro, the emulator supports frame generation and internal resolution up to 8x. Sony's current update policy prevents users from reverting to the firmware versions required to execute the Relapse exploit.
