APC Claims Mass Defections from PDP and ADC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) reported two significant waves of political realignments as parties consolidate support for the 2027 general elections. In Kwara State, approximately 1,500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Alapa/Onire/Odegiwa Ward defected to the ruling party on Sunday. The defectors cited internal mistreatment, the imposition of candidates, and a poor reward system within the PDP as primary drivers for their departure.

Abdullateef Alakawa, Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, welcomed the group and praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's regional performance. Alakawa urged the new members to support the governor in the upcoming Kwara Central Senatorial District election.

Separately, the APC claimed that House of Assembly candidates from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba, and Jigawa states defected to the party on Monday. Led by Dr. Princess Aslam Aliyu Gambiyar, the group met with APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda in Abuja to declare support for President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid.

The ADC formally rejected these claims, asserting that the individuals presented by the APC hold no recognized positions or candidacies within the party. National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi accused the APC of conferring "imaginary ADC credentials" on random individuals. While Yilwatda defended the federal government's economic reforms and infrastructure projects in Northern Nigeria, the ADC countered that rising food prices and insecurity make such claims of transformation unbelievable.
