Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited launched a rugged satellite phone priced at ₹1,34,166 for use in remote areas and emergency zones across India.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited launched a specialized satellite phone priced at ₹1,34,166, including taxes, designed for environments where conventional cellular networks are unavailable. Developed in partnership with Inmarsat, the rugged device provides voice calling, SMS, and an SOS emergency function for use in border regions, offshore waters, and disaster-hit zones.
The device targets defense and security personnel, maritime workers, mining professionals, disaster response teams, and adventure travelers. Because the phone connects directly to satellites, it offers critical connectivity for professionals operating in off-grid locations. BSNL provides various prepaid and postpaid plans, with per-minute charges for commercial users at ₹25 and government users at ₹18 after exhausting free limits.
Due to national security regulations and the Telecommunications Act 2023, the phone is not available through retail stores. Buyers must contact BSNL offices and obtain a No Objection Certificate or prior authorization from the Department of Telecommunications to ensure legal operation within India.
