Stellantis Recalls 288,000 Ram Vans Over Steering Defect
Stellantis is recalling over 288,000 Ram ProMaster vehicles across North America due to a steering system defect that increases crash risks.
Stellantis NV is recalling more than 288,000 Ram vehicles across North America due to a defect in the electric power steering systems. The recall affects 265,512 vehicles in the United States, 20,000 in Canada, and over 3,000 in Mexico. Affected models include 2022–2026 Ram ProMaster 1500, 2500, and 3500 cargo vans, as well as 2024–2026 Ram 3500 Electric vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identified that water can seep into the steering systems, damaging electrical wiring. This failure can cause a permanent loss of power steering assist, making vehicles harder to steer and increasing the risk of a crash. Federal regulators began reviewing the vehicles in September 2025 following consumer complaints, and the company is aware of one non-injury accident linked to the defect.
Authorized dealers will inspect the wiring harness and replace it, along with the electric power steering gear if necessary, at no cost to owners. Vehicle identification numbers became searchable on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website on October 6, 2026. The company plans to mail interim warning letters starting November 17, 2026, and stated that "Affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service."
