JPMorgan Chase Finances $230 Billion for National Security Initiative
JPMorgan Chase has deployed $230 billion in its first year of a $1.5 trillion program to protect U.S. supply chains and national security.
JPMorgan Chase has financed $230 billion in projects during the first year of its $1.5 trillion national security and resiliency initiative. The program utilizes the bank's balance sheet to arrange loans and investments for heavy industrial companies, energy suppliers, and defense contractors to shield the U.S. economy from foreign threats and supply-chain disruptions.
The first-year total includes the $125 billion merger of Dominion Energy and NextEra. CEO Jamie Dimon stated the initiative allows the bank to work with companies at an earlier stage than typical lending channels permit. The program was inspired by recent U.S. government actions, including taking stakes in U.S. Steel and Intel.
As part of these efforts, the bank partnered with the state of Michigan and Ford Motor to deploy over $2 billion in subsidies for manufacturing companies addressing critical supply-chain gaps.
