Blackstone Pitches $36 Billion Debt Package for Anthropic AI Chips
Blackstone Inc. is gauging investor interest in a $36 billion debt package to fund Anthropic PBC's use of Google custom computer chips.
Investment firm Blackstone Inc. has held early discussions with investors to gauge interest in a debt package of at least $36 billion. The financing is designed to support Anthropic PBC in leasing custom computer chips from Alphabet Inc.'s Google across five data centers.
This proposed funding follows a previous $35 billion debt deal arranged by Blackstone and Apollo Global Management Inc. approximately two months prior. Both deals are part of the AI XPV Platform, a strategic partnership between Blackstone, Apollo, and Broadcom Inc. established to fund AI compute infrastructure. In the initial $35 billion deal, Broadcom Inc. backstopped payments on the largest senior portions.
These financing efforts coincide with Anthropic filing a confidential US IPO. The move is seen as a strategic attempt to potentially beat rival OpenAI to a public-market debut.
