Tesla to Unveil Cybercab Robotaxi in Austin on September 3

Tesla will host an exclusive launch event for its Cybercab robotaxi on September 3, 2026, in Austin, Texas. The two-seat electric vehicle is designed for full autonomy, omitting steering wheels and pedals in favor of the AI4 computer. Technical specifications indicate a front-wheel-drive motor generating 219 hp and a battery providing an urban range of 290 to 300 miles, though some estimates suggest up to 418 miles. The vehicle will utilize inductive wireless charging.

Initial commercial services will launch in Austin via a ride-hailing application. While Tesla currently operates a supervised fleet of 20 to 30 units in Texas and Florida, the company has received authorization to deploy up to 5,000 autonomous vehicles in the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

Financial and production goals remain uncertain. CEO Elon Musk previously estimated a retail price of approximately $30,000 with production starting before 2027. However, prediction markets have seen confidence in this retail deadline drop from 33% in April to 17%. Tesla omitted 2026 volume production targets from its second-quarter financial update, and Musk warned that the initial production ramp would be "agonizingly slow."
