India's industrial production grew 8 percent year-on-year in August 2026, driven by strong gains in manufacturing and electricity supply.

India's industrial production grew 8 percent year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from a revised 7.4 percent growth recorded in July. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation reported that the increase was primarily driven by a 9 percent rise in the manufacturing sector and a 12.3 percent increase in electricity and gas supply.

Within the manufacturing sector, electrical equipment saw the highest growth at 30.9 percent, followed by other transport equipment at 25.3 percent and motor vehicles at 25.2 percent. In contrast, the mining and quarrying sector contracted by 5.6 percent.

Under use-based classification, capital goods led the growth at 16.9 percent, while intermediate goods and consumer durables grew by 13.7 percent and 11.1 percent, respectively. Cumulative industrial production growth for the period from April to August 2026 reached 6.7 percent, marking an increase from the 4.2 percent growth recorded during the same period the previous year.
