Pennsylvania Turnpike Suspends Construction for Labor Day Traffic

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission expects approximately 2.9 million vehicles to travel the Pennsylvania Turnpike during the Labor Day weekend from September 3 to September 7. This volume represents a 1.2% increase over 2025 levels, with the heaviest congestion projected for Thursday and Friday.

To maximize lane availability, the commission is suspending all construction and maintenance projects from 3 p.m. Thursday until 11 p.m. Monday. The Pennsylvania State Police Troop T and GEICO Safety Patrol teams will increase patrols to monitor speed limits and general safety throughout the system.

Authorities will also fully enforce Paul Miller's Law, which prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving. Violators face a $50 fine plus court costs, though drivers may still use hands-free technology for GPS, music, and phone calls.
