Three Transit Authorities Offer Free Rides for Election Day

The Mass Transportation Authority, BATA, and TARTA will provide fare-free transit on November 3 to remove transportation barriers for voters.

Three regional transit agencies announced initiatives to provide free transportation on Election Day, November 3, 2026, to increase voter accessibility. The Mass Transportation Authority will offer free rides to polling locations in Genesee County until 8:00 pm for Fixed Route and Your Ride passengers, though the latter requires scheduling one day in advance.

In other regions, the Bay Area Transportation Authority and the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority are expanding their offers to all destinations. The Bay Area Transportation Authority will provide fare-free service on its City and Village Loop buses across the Grand Traverse region, including parts of Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties.

The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will offer free access to its fixed route, Move paratransit, and Flex on-demand services. While the primary goal is to remove barriers to voting, officials noted that free rides are available for all trips, including those to work and school.
