Sambit Patra Accuses Jawaharlal Nehru of First Vote Theft

BJP MP Sambit Patra claimed Jawaharlal Nehru stole votes from Congress leaders to become Prime Minister, countering opposition allegations of electoral malpractice.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sambit Patra accused Jawaharlal Nehru of committing the first instance of vote theft in independent India to secure the Prime Minister's post over Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on October 31, the birth anniversary of Patel, Patra claimed Nehru stole votes from prominent Congress leaders to become an "unelected Prime Minister."

Patra's comments served as a counter-offensive to allegations of electoral malpractice raised by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The INDIA bloc had staged a mock parliament demonstration aimed at the symbolic public impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, citing concerns over voter roll manipulation and electronic voting machine issues.

Patra dismissed the opposition's claims as distractions from their electoral defeats. He defended the Election Commission of India's Special Summary Revision process, stating that exclusions from electoral rolls follow specific criteria where individuals are marked as absent or shifted after verification attempts by Booth Level Officers.
