Campaigns Launch Cost-of-Living Ads in Key Battleground States

Democratic and Republican campaigns are spending millions on advertisements targeting candidate records and inflation in Iowa, New Hampshire, and North Carolina.

Campaigns and super PACs are deploying millions of dollars in advertisements across Iowa, New Hampshire, and North Carolina to influence the November midterms. These ads focus heavily on the cost of living and the legislative records of the candidates.

In Iowa, the Senate Majority PAC targeted Republican candidate Ashley Hinson, accusing her of missing nearly 200 votes during her congressional tenure. The PAC's figure includes committee and voice votes in addition to floor roll-calls. In New Hampshire, the No Going Back PAC claimed Democratic nominee Chris Pappas voted against rural hospital funding, though the ad omits that the vote also opposed Medicaid cuts.

In North Carolina, Democratic nominee Roy Cooper released an advertisement featuring 2025 remarks from Republican candidate Michael Whatley. In the clips, Whatley claimed that inflation and prices for groceries, gasoline, and housing were down. While the quotes are verbatim, the advertisement omits that the statements were recorded over a year before current price surges linked to conflict in Iran and tariffs.
