Vertical Aerospace Debuts eVTOL Transition Flight at Farnborough

Vertical Aerospace demonstrated a prototype electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft at the Farnborough international airshow on July 21, 2026. The flight served as the first public demonstration of the aircraft transitioning from conventional wing-based flight to vertical flight.

The company secured an additional £10 million government grant, increasing its total UK state funding to £48 million. These funds will support the finalization of aircraft and battery production facilities, including a site in Kemble where the company intends to manufacture approximately 150 aircraft annually.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom expressed interest in the aircraft's hybrid-electric and autonomous capabilities for military use. Chief Executive Stuart Simpson noted that the military is particularly interested in the powertrain, which allows for low noise and heat signatures and silent takeoff and landing.

Following previous delays, the company now targets a 2029 launch for its four-passenger Valo production aircraft. This timeline remains pending certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
