INEC Distributes Materials for Rivers and Ekiti Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission distributed electoral materials and deployed security for a senatorial bye-election in Rivers and a governorship election in Ekiti.
The Independent National Electoral Commission began final preparations for two separate electoral contests in Nigeria, distributing sensitive materials and deploying officials across Rivers and Ekiti states. In Port Harcourt, the commission moved ballot papers and result sheets from the Central Bank of Nigeria office for the Rivers South-East senatorial bye-election. Resident Electoral Commissioner Johnson Alalibo confirmed the materials were secured and untampered before they were transported under heavy security to seven local government areas.
Simultaneously, the commission coordinated the deployment of officials and materials for the Ekiti governorship election. This operation covered 2,445 polling units across 177 wards in 16 local government areas. To secure the process, the Nigeria Police Force established road blockades and deployed armored personnel carriers at the INEC headquarters in Ado Ekiti.
Both operations were designed to ensure transparency and voter safety. National Commissioner May Agbamuche-Mbu witnessed the Rivers distribution, while Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle managed the comprehensive security measures in Ekiti to protect ballots and voters ahead of the polls.
