Military Deploys Air Defenses Around Trump's Mar-a-Lago Estate
The North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command deployed air defense systems around Mar-a-Lago following a U.S. Secret Service request.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command deployed ground-based air defense assets around President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate and the Donald J. Trump International Airport in Palm Beach, Florida. The deployment includes Avenger air defense systems and Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System capabilities positioned at the airport and on a barge in the Intracoastal Waterway.
Executed at the request of the United States Secret Service, the operation aims to counter airborne threats including drones, helicopters, and low-flying aircraft. While federal officials have not identified a specific immediate threat, the move follows a pattern of airspace violations; NORAD reported intercepting more than 60 aircraft near the estate since January 2025, including a civilian aircraft intercepted by an F-16 on October 24.
The United States Secret Service stated the agency is adapting its protective operations to a heightened threat environment by incorporating cutting-edge tools and technology. The deployment coincides with a Federal Aviation Administration notification signaling a potential presidential visit to the area from October 30 through November 1. While military experts suggest the systems provide necessary redundancy against drone swarms, some local residents have expressed concern over the presence of missile systems in their neighborhood.
