Asian Markets Mixed as Wall Street Tech Rallies

Asian stock markets showed mixed results on Tuesday, failing to mirror record-breaking Nasdaq gains due to inflation and rising borrowing costs.

Asian stock markets delivered mixed results on Tuesday, failing to fully replicate a record-breaking performance on Wall Street. While the Nasdaq reached a new peak driven by rallies in technology giants including Nvidia, Meta, and Space Exploration Technologies Corp., gains in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Sydney, Jakarta, and Wellington were offset by declines in Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, and Manila. Shanghai remained closed for a holiday.

Market volatility in Asia is driven by the Middle East crisis, which has increased energy costs and pressured central banks to raise interest rates. Additionally, the high cost of building AI infrastructure has limited the ability of technology firms to rely solely on cash reserves.

In the energy sector, Brent crude remains above $100 a barrel. This price level persists despite a G7 stockpile release and price cuts from Saudi Arabia. Amin H. Nasser, the chief executive of Saudi Aramco, issued warnings regarding global stockpiles following the G7 release.
