Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten Expecting Child via Surrogacy

Prime Minister Rob Jetten and fiancé Nicolás Keenan announced they are expecting a baby in 2027 through a non-commercial surrogacy arrangement with acquaintances.

Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and his fiancé, Argentinian professional field hockey player Nicolás Keenan, announced they are expecting their first child in the spring of 2027. The couple shared the news via Instagram, including an ultrasound image, and expressed gratitude toward their egg donor and their surrogate mother, Lisa.

The pregnancy was arranged through a non-commercial agreement with Lisa and the egg donor, both of whom are acquaintances of the couple. The Democrats 66 party issued a statement clarifying the nature of the arrangement and requested that the public respect the privacy of those involved. Lisa described the process as a special way to help friends realize their dream.

Jetten, 38, is the first openly gay and youngest Prime Minister in the history of the Netherlands, and the first postwar Dutch prime minister to have a child while in office. He and Keenan have been engaged since November 2024, though they delayed their marriage plans as Jetten prepared to take office. The announcement follows a year of milestones for the Prime Minister, including a September visit to New York City for the United Nations General Assembly, where he met with LGBTQ+ youth and visited the Stonewall Inn.
