ADC Supporters Protest Rumors of Candidate Swap in Adamawa

Supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) staged street protests in Yola, Adamawa State, on July 23, 2026, to oppose reports that the party intended to replace its governorship candidate, Omar Suleiman. Mobilized by the group Frontier Movement 774, protesters marched to the ADC state secretariat in Jimeta to demand the party respect internal democracy.

The unrest followed social media claims that the ADC substituted Suleiman with Tukur Modibbo, a move allegedly supported by party chieftain Musa Halilu. Some protesters appealed to Atiku Abubakar to intervene in the dispute. However, the ADC state chapter has issued no formal statement confirming any change to the ticket.

Suleiman Adamu Jimeta, a founding member of the ADC in Adamawa State, dismissed the reports as baseless and false. Jimeta warned that replacing Suleiman would create serious internal divisions and trigger widespread dissatisfaction, which could ultimately sink the party's electoral prospects in the state.
