Haley Stevens Appears With Republican Mike Rogers Before Election

Representative Haley Stevens appeared with Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers in Detroit after a public fallout with Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed.

U.S. Representative Haley Stevens appeared with Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers at a Detroit church service on Sunday, days before the general election. The appearance followed a public fallout between Stevens and Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who defeated Stevens in the August primary. Stevens had been uninvited from a joint Democratic event organized by Representative Debbie Dingell after a dispute escalated over El-Sayed's comments on Israel and a critical campaign advertisement.

While Stevens appeared with Rogers, El-Sayed attended a separate service with Representative Jim Clyburn and other Democratic leaders to project unity and mobilize Black and Jewish voters. The tension intensified after Stevens' fiancé announced he would vote for Rogers, citing El-Sayed's failure to address Jewish community concerns. Stevens criticized El-Sayed for not sufficiently condemning an ad that linked U.S. support for Israel to high grocery prices, though El-Sayed denied his campaign produced the advertisement.

The intraparty conflict led to the immediate resignation of Stevens' longtime chief of staff. El-Sayed, a former public health official, is competing against Rogers for a seat vacated by retiring Democrat Gary Peters. If elected on Tuesday, El-Sayed would become the first Muslim senator in U.S. history.
