News Corp Reports Record First-Quarter Profit of $215 Million
News Corp posted a 43% increase in first-quarter net income to $215 million, driven by growth in Dow Jones and digital real estate.
News Corp reported record first-quarter profitability on Wednesday, with net income rising 43% to $215 million. Total revenue increased 6% to $2.28 billion, surpassing analyst expectations. The growth was distributed across three primary divisions: Dow Jones sales rose 8% to $630 million, the digital real estate unit grew 10% to $529 million, and book publishing surged 9% to $582 million.
CEO Robert Thomson stated these results mark the fourteenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year profitability growth. He attributed the performance to the company's transformation into a digitally driven, higher-margin business.
Thomson also detailed the company's approach to artificial intelligence, noting existing content partnerships with OpenAI and Meta. While optimistic about the AI age, he warned other platforms that News Corp will pursue legal action to protect its intellectual property if they do not provide compensation for content use.
