Airbus Sets 2029 Profit Targets and Launches €5 Billion Buyback

Airbus SE announced a mid-term target of €12-13 billion in adjusted earnings by 2029 and a €5 billion share buyback programme.

Airbus SE announced a new mid-term financial outlook and a €5 billion share buyback programme during an investor update in London on July 21, 2026. The company targets an adjusted EBIT of €12 billion to €13 billion by 2029, with the commercial aircraft division expected to contribute approximately €10 billion of that total. The share buyback is planned for execution over three years, subject to shareholder approval.

To achieve these targets, the manufacturer will ramp up production across several aircraft families. The A320neo family is targeted for 70-75 aircraft per month by 2027, while the A220 and A350 are targeted for 13 and 12 aircraft per month respectively by 2028. Additionally, Airbus aims to reach $10 billion in commercial aircraft services revenues by 2030.

Despite strong widebody jet demand, the company faces near-term hurdles including supply-chain bottlenecks and engine shortages. Airbus is specifically urging Pratt & Whitney to increase engine deliveries in 2027 to support new assembly lines. The company reaffirmed its fiscal 2026 outlook, targeting approximately 870 commercial aircraft deliveries and an adjusted EBIT of €7.5 billion. Following the announcement, shares rose more than 5% in trading.
