Aliyev and Pashinyan Advance Peace and Trade in Bishkek

Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia met in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on August 31, 2026. The meeting took place on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit to advance the normalization of interstate relations.

The leaders focused on implementing the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations and the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), both of which originated from the August 2025 Washington Peace Summit. Their discussions centered on practical economic outcomes, including the export of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia and the transit of third-country grain and goods through Azerbaijan.

Aliyev and Pashinyan also addressed the ongoing work of state commissions regarding border delimitation. They emphasized the necessity of involving parliamentarians and civil society to build mutual trust. The two leaders agreed to maintain direct bilateral engagement to strengthen regional connectivity and expand energy cooperation.
