Warren Buffett celebrated his 96th birthday on August 30, 2026, marking his first birthday since retiring as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. Buffett stepped down from the CEO role on January 1, 2026, after more than five decades of leadership, handing the position to Greg Abel.

Buffett continues to serve as chairman and commutes to the company's Omaha headquarters five days a week to evaluate acquisitions and pick stocks. Over the past year, he built a stake in Alphabet Inc. worth nearly $38 billion by June 2026, making it the company's third-largest stock position.

Despite Berkshire Hathaway reaching a $1 trillion valuation, Buffett has expressed frustration with high asset prices, which have limited capital deployment and increased the company's cash reserves. He has also accelerated his philanthropic timeline, intending to distribute his entire fortune, which exceeds $140 billion, to charitable causes by the end of 2034.
