Governor Uba Sani Increases Pay for Kaduna Traditional Rulers

Governor Uba Sani approved an upward review of salaries and allowances for emirs, chiefs, district heads, and village heads across the three senatorial districts of Kaduna State. Effective September 1, 2026, the governor also authorized monthly security allowances for all 35 emirates and chiefdoms within the state.

Government officials stated the measures aim to improve the welfare of traditional leaders and strengthen their capacity for grassroots governance, peace-building, and conflict resolution. The security allowances are specifically intended to enhance intelligence gathering to assist security agencies in combating crime and other threats.

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Kaduna state chapter, commended the decision. Chairman Sheikh Jamilu Abubakar Albani described traditional rulers as indispensable partners in governance and a vital link between the government and the people, noting that the move will help address security challenges across the state's 23 local government areas.
