Investors Exit Costco Stock Over High Valuation

Bell Global Equities Fund and financial analysts Jim Cramer have cautioned against Costco's stock price, citing a premium valuation that limits future returns.

Investors and financial analysts are questioning the current market valuation of Costco Wholesale Corporation, suggesting that a premium price may limit future returns. As of July 8, 2026, shares closed at $953.13 with a market capitalization of $422.69 billion, though the stock saw a one-month return of -6.42%.

In a May 2026 update, the Bell Global Equities Fund exited its position in the retailer after more than 12 years. The fund indicated that a valuation of approximately 45x forward earnings rendered the risk-reward profile no longer compelling, especially as other high-quality companies experienced material valuation de-ratings.

Financial commentator Jim Cramer echoed these concerns on Mad Money, stating the stock had become too expensive at 46 to 47 times earnings. He advised investors to wait for the valuation to drop to 45 times earnings before initiating a major move.
