UK Department for Work and Pensions Unveils Pension Reform Roadmap
The Department for Work and Pensions released an updated roadmap to modernize workplace pensions and implement the Pension Schemes Act 2026.
The Department for Work and Pensions published an updated roadmap for workplace pension reform, establishing a sequenced delivery plan for the government program. The updated timelines focus on reforms enabled by the Pension Schemes Act 2026, specifically targeting the new value for money regime and legislation for guided retirements and retirement collective defined contribution schemes.
Pensions Minister Torsten Bell stated that the reform agenda is entering its delivery phase across government, regulators, and industry. Bell characterized the roadmap as a response to industry demands for certainty and a necessary step toward creating a pensions system fit for the 21st century. He emphasized that a broad consensus across political parties and policy makers supports these reforms.
Further developments are expected early next year, when the Pensions Commission will release a final report. This report will address trusteeship and governance within the evolving pensions landscape to complement the current delivery plan.
