Bee Cheng Hiang Reports Singapore's First AI-Linked Data Breach

Bee Cheng Hiang, a Singaporean producer of Chinese-style pork jerky, reported the first AI-linked data breach in Singapore to the Personal Data Protection Commission. The breach occurred in April during the company's first attempt to integrate AI tools into its business operations.

An employee used a generative AI tool to develop a program for sending bulk emails to a local mailing list. Because the employee failed to instruct the AI to hide recipient email addresses, the program accidentally disclosed customer emails to other recipients. The company subsequently notified the regulatory commission of the incident.
