Thailand Car Production Rises 10.93 Percent in August
Thailand increased car production to 124,646 units in August as the government plans excise tax cuts to stimulate local manufacturing.
Car production in Thailand rose 10.93 percent in August to 124,646 units compared to the previous year, according to the Federation of Thai Industries. This growth follows a 6.12 percent increase in July. Domestic car sales also saw a significant rise, growing 25.59 percent year-on-year in August.
Export performance shifted during the period, with a 2.04 percent decline in August following a 2.39 percent increase in July. Despite these fluctuations, the Automotive Industry Club confirmed that recent heavy flooding in Bangkok did not affect auto supply chains and that industry forecasts remain unchanged.
The Federation of Thai Industries previously lowered its annual production forecast for 2026 to a 3.33 percent drop, citing hostilities in the Middle East. To counter these pressures and stimulate the industry, the Government of Thailand plans to reduce excise tax rates for automakers that establish local production facilities to increase the use of domestic raw materials and parts.
