Michigan Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed Denies Illegal Donation Claims
Abdul El-Sayed's Senate campaign denies allegations from a fired field organizer who claimed in an undercover video that the candidate accepts illegal overseas donations.
The Senate campaign of Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is facing scrutiny following the release of an undercover video by O'Keefe Media Group on Monday. In the recording, campaign field organizer Abdoul Beckwith alleged that El-Sayed accepts illegal overseas donations by moving funds through intermediaries or family members to bypass federal laws.
Beckwith further suggested that El-Sayed avoids denouncing groups such as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood to prevent alienating his core supporters. The Michigan Democratic Party fired Beckwith immediately after the video became public.
The El-Sayed campaign has dismissed the allegations as "untrue" and "wildly misinformed." Campaign officials asserted that the operation fully complies with all Federal Election Commission rules.
