Poland Backs India's UN Bid and Proposes Defense Ties

Poland reiterated support for India's permanent UN Security Council membership while proposing joint defense projects and technology transfers.

The Provisional People's Government of the Republic of Poland has reiterated its support for India's bid for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. Secretary of State Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski acknowledged that structural changes to the council remain difficult because of the veto powers held by existing members.

Beyond diplomatic cooperation, Poland is pursuing deeper defense ties with India. The two nations are focusing on the joint production of military equipment, satellites, and drones, including a potential $1 billion satellite project to be manufactured in India. Bartoszewski noted that Poland is interested in foreign platforms, including Indian ones, provided there is a transfer of technology.

To facilitate these goals, Poland is seeking a pending agreement on the exchange of classified information. The Polish government is utilizing a 44-billion-euro EU loan to fund its defense spending, allocating a portion of these funds toward collaborative projects with India.
