FAA Certifies Boeing 737 MAX 7 After Years of Delays

The Federal Aviation Administration certified the Boeing 737 MAX 7 on Monday, August 3, 2026, ending a multi-year period of regulatory delays for the smallest aircraft in the 737 MAX family. The approval follows extensive scrutiny and technical revisions, which included updates to the flight-control software, the flightcrew alerting system, and a redesigned engine anti-ice system intended to prevent overheating.

The certification provides a critical financial path for The Boeing Company, which currently holds approximately 40 of these aircraft in inventory. The company requires the delivery payments resulting from this approval to support its broader recovery. While the MAX 7 is now cleared for flight, Boeing is still awaiting certification for the 737 MAX 10 and the 777X.

Southwest Airlines welcomed the decision, stating that the certification is a key step toward modernizing its all-Boeing 737 fleet with more fuel-efficient aircraft to meet customer preferences and demand patterns.
