Reform UK Suspends Tim Montgomerie Over Leadership Criticism
Reform UK suspended supporter Tim Montgomerie after he publicly criticized party leader Nigel Farage and home affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf.
Reform UK has suspended Tim Montgomerie, a prominent political commentator and founder of ConservativeHome, following a series of public criticisms directed at the party's leadership. The suspension was triggered by Montgomerie's appearance on The Spectator's Coffee House Shots podcast, where he described home affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf as behaving "like a child" and criticized Yusuf's "intemperate" social media conduct, including his branding of Sir Ben Wallace as a "traitor."
Montgomerie also targeted party leader Nigel Farage, questioning Farage's decision to skip the Clacton by-election count to attend a "Farage Fest." Additionally, he raised concerns regarding the transparency of a £5 million gift Farage received from cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne. These tensions coincided with reports that Farage had "fallen out of love" with Yusuf.
In response to the suspension, Montgomerie announced his intention to appeal, asserting that his critiques were intended to make the party stronger. He stated that if the party intends to remove him, they will have to do so "after an argument."
