S&P 500 Stabilizes as Oil Prices Ease and Dell Surges
The S&P 500 stabilized Wednesday as falling oil prices reduced inflation fears and AI demand boosted technology stocks.
The S&P 500 stabilized on Wednesday after a three-day decline, driven by oil prices dropping below $90 a barrel. This price correction eased investor concerns regarding inflation while the market analyzed August employment data showing moderate job growth and weighed the Federal Reserve's future interest-rate path.
Technology stocks saw significant volatility. Dell Technologies Inc. rose 8.2% after raising its annual sales forecast by $25 billion, citing strong demand for AI servers. GitLab Inc. also surged 15% following improved revenue guidance. In contrast, MongoDB fell 13% and Credo Technology dropped 17%.
In the energy sector, Chevron Corp. announced a $7 billion investment over five years to double crude production in Venezuela. This move is part of a broader effort led by the United States government to revive the Venezuelan oil industry. These market movements occurred as the United States and Iran continued intensified conflict over the Strait of Hormuz.
