SK Hynix Orders $7.97 Billion in ASML EUV Tools

SK Hynix placed a record $7.97 billion order for ASML lithography equipment to expand production of high bandwidth memory for AI applications.

SK Hynix disclosed in a regulatory filing on March 24, 2026, that it will purchase 11.95 trillion won, approximately $7.97 billion, of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography tools from ASML. This represents the largest single order by an ASML customer ever publicly disclosed. The equipment, estimated to consist of roughly 30 scanners, is scheduled for acquisition by December 31, 2027.

The investment aims to support the mass production of high bandwidth memory (HBM) and advanced DRAM to meet growing AI-driven demand. The tools will be deployed across two South Korean facilities: the M15X plant in Cheongju and the new Yongin Semiconductor Cluster. To accelerate this capacity increase, SK Hynix moved the opening of the first cleanroom at the Yongin plant forward from May to February 2027.

ASML, which reported a 38.8 billion euro order backlog at the end of 2025, declined to comment on the specific business plans of the customer.
