India and Malaysia Strengthen Defense and Industrial Ties in New Delhi
India and Malaysia held high-level military and naval meetings in New Delhi to expand cooperation in defense technology, maritime security, and industrial ties.
India and Malaysia conducted a series of high-level diplomatic and military engagements in New Delhi between July 1 and July 3, 2026, to strengthen bilateral defense ties. The Indian Navy and Royal Malaysian Navy concluded the 11th edition of their Staff Talks on July 1, focusing on maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region and freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific.
Simultaneously, Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad and Major General Amer Mahmud Bin Abdul Rahman co-chaired the 12th Sub-Committee Meeting on Military Cooperation. This session addressed military-to-military exchanges, capacity building, and emerging domains such as cyber security and defense technology. As part of the visit, the Malaysian delegation met with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and toured the National War Memorial.
The engagements culminated on July 3 with the 12th Meeting of the India–Malaysia Joint Sub-Committee on Defence Science, Technology and Industry Cooperation. Co-chaired by Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade of the Department of Defence Production and Mohd Nizam Bin Mohd Khir of the Malaysian Ministry of Defence, the meeting focused on strengthening defense industrial ties and long-term cooperation. These activities build upon a 1993 Memorandum of Understanding and serve as precursors to the upcoming India-Malaysia Defence Cooperation Meeting.
