Qatar Intercepts Iranian Missiles as Regional Conflict Escalates
Qatar intercepted ballistic missiles launched by Iran and suspended maritime activities after three people were injured by interception shrapnel.
The Qatari Armed Forces intercepted a series of Iranian ballistic missile attacks targeting the country in the early hours of Sunday, July 12, 2026. The Ministry of Defense reported that the missiles were successfully repelled, though the government raised security threat levels twice that morning. Public safety alerts were issued to the population between 5:36 a.m. and 5:54 a.m. before normalcy was restored.
The attacks occurred amid a broader surge in regional conflict involving the United States and Iran. The United States launched strikes on Iranian military targets, leading Iran to retaliate against U.S. bases across the Gulf and target Qatar and neighboring countries. The Ministry of Interior of Qatar reported that three people, including a child, were injured by shrapnel during the missile interception operations.
In response to the instability, the Ministry of Transport of Qatar suspended all maritime navigation and marine activities, including fishing and leisure boats, as a precautionary measure. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar condemned the strikes, describing them as a flagrant violation of international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
