Aon CEO Warns AI Infrastructure Risks Threaten Data Center Financing

Aon CEO Greg Case warns that AI data center concentration risks could block access to debt markets and requires a massive expansion of global insurance capital.

Aon CEO Greg Case warned that the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure is creating significant concentration risks that could jeopardize the financing of data centers. Case stated that clustering billions of dollars of equipment in a few locations makes projects difficult to insure, which may block access to debt markets.

Case noted that operational disruptions in these facilities could result in business interruption losses measuring millions of dollars per minute. To address these risks, Aon has established specialized insurance facilities, including a $10 billion data center pool.

Case argued that the global insurance industry's capital base, currently around $4.5 trillion, must double or triple to meet emerging AI and cyber risks. He proposed tapping into institutional investors and sovereign wealth funds to expand this capacity.

Separately, Aon is pursuing a $17 billion acquisition of USI Insurance Services to expand its middle-market platform. The company expects the deal to generate $395 million in annual earnings benefits.
