NY Assistant Attorney General Alleges Political Targeting of Trump

Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld sent an agency-wide email to approximately 2,000 employees alleging that the New York Attorney General's office is being used to prosecute political enemies. Wiesenfeld claimed his supervisor, Investor Protection Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe, instructed him to find crimes committed by Donald Trump, Truth Social, and Hewlett Packard without providing credible evidence.

Wiesenfeld argued that Attorney General Letitia James is targeting political opponents rather than focusing on actual crimes, such as antisemitic offenses and nonprofit homeless shelter fraud. He urged his colleagues not to serve as personal attorneys for James by targeting her political enemies.

The Office of the Attorney General denied the allegations and placed Wiesenfeld on administrative leave. General Counsel Kumiki Gibson informed staff that the email was an internal matter. These allegations surface as Letitia James faces a challenge in the November election from GOP candidate Saritha Komatireddy, who has criticized the Attorney General's use of taxpayer funds.
