Early Voting Begins in Texas Midterm Elections

Texas voters began early casting ballots Monday for several state offices, including a closely contested race for railroad commissioner.

Early voting for the Texas midterm elections began on October 19 and will continue through October 30, leading up to Election Day on November 3. The ballot features contests for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and U.S. Senate.

Bo French, the Republican nominee for Texas railroad commissioner, is focusing his campaign efforts on young male voters to secure the state's oil and gas regulatory office. French currently holds a narrow lead over Democratic state Representative Jon Rosenthal, with a Texas Public Opinion Research poll placing him at 45% to Rosenthal's 44%.

French's candidacy has faced bipartisan backlash and a decline in polling following a social media post in which he criticized the diversity of students at the University of Texas. U.S. Senator John Cornyn has refused to endorse French, stating that the nominee is an embarrassment to the Republican Party.
