Israel Kills Hamas Intelligence Chief Jamal Abu Saeed in Gaza
The Israeli military killed Hamas intelligence operations head Jamal Abu Saeed in a Gaza City airstrike, alleging he held hostages and violated a ceasefire.
The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security agency killed Jamal Abu Saeed, the head of operations for the military intelligence apparatus of Hamas, in an airstrike in Gaza City on Sunday.
In a joint statement released Wednesday, Israeli authorities alleged that Abu Saeed held Israeli hostage Omer Shem Tov captive and was planning attacks against Israeli troops and civilians. Israel further accused Abu Saeed of attempting to rebuild Hamas military capabilities in violation of the ceasefire that took effect in October 2025.
Hamas has not immediately confirmed the report. Gaza-based health authorities reported Wednesday that Israeli attacks have killed 1,602 people since the October 2025 ceasefire, bringing the total death toll since October 7, 2023, to 74,618.
