Micron Workers in Taiwan Threaten Strike Over Profit Sharing

Micron Technology faces potential labor strikes at Taiwan plants as employees demand a permanent profit-sharing system tied to 15% of operating profits.

Employees at Micron Technology manufacturing facilities in Taoyuan and Taichung, Taiwan, are moving toward a formal strike vote after rejecting the company's largest-ever bonus offer. The workers are demanding a permanent profit-sharing system tied to 15% of operating profits, citing similar models used by competitors Samsung and SK Hynix as the benchmark for their demands.

Hundreds of employees have already rallied after mediation efforts failed to produce an agreement. While Micron's leadership in the United States has requested additional time to consider a counter-offer, the threat of a work stoppage comes during a period of record AI-driven demand. The company has already sold out its high-bandwidth memory products through 2027.

Financial reports show Micron recorded strong fiscal third-quarter revenue of $41.46 billion. However, the company remains under pressure from high investor expectations and the massive capital expenditures required to expand AI chip capacity.
