Geoffrey Ruku Accuses Kenyatta and Gachagua of Mobilizing Mt Kenya

Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku accused former leaders Uhuru Kenyatta and Rigathi Gachagua of attempting to turn the Mt Kenya region against President William Ruto.

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of attempting to portray the Mt Kenya community as promise-breakers. Speaking on August 2, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cathedral in Meru Town, Ruku claimed the two leaders are mobilizing the region against President William Ruto before his constitutional tenure ends.

Ruku dismissed claims that the Kenya Kwanza administration has sidelined the Mt Kenya region, calling such assertions false narratives designed to serve personal interests. He specifically criticized Rigathi Gachagua for attempting to frame his constitutional impeachment as a regional grievance and alleged that certain leaders from Mt Kenya West are undermining Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Despite these tensions, Ruku asserted that Mt Kenya East remains committed to the government's development agenda. He predicted the region would support President Ruto's re-election in 2027, stating that the priority remains unity and the benefit of government programs for the local population.
