Mumbai Police Order Actor Imran Khan to Leave India

Mumbai Police issued a Leave India Notice to US citizen and actor Imran Khan after he participated in a political protest on October 10.

The Greater Mumbai Police issued a Leave India Notice to Imran Khan, a US citizen and actor, ordering him to depart the country by October 28. The order follows Khan's participation in an October 10 protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over electoral roll revision allegations.

Authorities detained Khan and hundreds of other participants, characterizing the gathering as unauthorized. Police cited the Immigration Act, asserting that Khan violated the conditions of his Overseas Citizen of India status by engaging in a political demonstration as a foreign national. The enforcement action followed public calls for deportation from BJP leader Kirit Somaiya.

Khan stated he attended the protest in a personal capacity as a resident of Mumbai to question restrictions on freedom of movement. He denied representing any organization, including the Cockroach Janata Party supported by the protesters, and maintained that he was not acting as a representative of any group.
