Miscarriages Surge in Gaza Amid Severe Humanitarian Crisis
United Nations reports show miscarriages in Gaza tripled in early 2026 due to malnutrition, water shortages, and displacement.
The United Nations reported a surge in miscarriages and stillbirths in the Gaza Strip, with 3,950 cases recorded between January and June 2026. This figure is more than triple the 1,197 cases reported from July to December 2025.
Medical specialists at the Nasser Medical Complex attribute the increase to severe malnutrition, anemia, and extreme physical fatigue resulting from repeated displacement. Dr. Ahmed al-Farra, head of the pediatric department, specifically linked the crisis to critical water shortages. Other contributing factors include exposure to smoke and toxic chemicals from explosive residues.
The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor states that Israel maintains a policy disrupting the supply chain of food and medical aid, which it claims violates the Fourth Geneva Convention. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health of Gaza reports that 1,273 Palestinians have been killed and 4,223 wounded since October 11, 2025, despite a ceasefire established in October 2025.
Israel has further expanded its territorial control through a Yellow Line demarcation, which now encompasses nearly 65 percent of the Gaza Strip.
