Delhi High Court Grants Interim Relief to Alakh Pandey
Alakh Pandey won an interim court order requiring Google, X, and Telegram to remove defamatory content and disclose subscriber information for fake accounts.
The Delhi High Court granted interim relief to Alakh Pandey, founder and CEO of the edtech platform PhysicsWallah, in a personality rights suit filed on August 5, 2026. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani ordered the immediate removal of online content deemed prima facie obscene, defamatory, or an unauthorized commercial exploitation of Pandey's personality.
Pandey alleged that his name, image, voice, and likeness were widely misused through fake social media profiles and channels to mislead students and generate commercial gain. He specifically cited a Telegram channel named 'Alakh Sir Lectures' as part of this misuse.
To facilitate legal action against the operators of these accounts, the court directed Google, X, and Telegram to disclose the Basic Subscriber Information for specific URLs and accounts identified by the plaintiff. The court reserved further observations regarding the scope of the restricted content for a future order. The matter is scheduled for a further hearing in November.
