Kerala Congress Apologizes to Chief Justice After Resignation Demand
The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee issued an unconditional apology to Chief Justice Surya Kant after an unauthorized social media post demanded his resignation.
The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) issued an unconditional apology to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on October 27, 2026. The apology followed a disrespectful post published on the party's official X account on October 12, which demanded the Chief Justice's resignation and stated, "We will find your replacement who can handle it." The post was reportedly a reaction to Justice Surya Kant declining a meeting request from Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and INDIA bloc leaders.
KPCC President Sunny Joseph clarified that the post was published without authorization by Vijay Thottathil. Thottathil has since been removed from his position and ordered to issue a public apology. The party's reversal came after a legal notice from Meneesh Dubey, Joint Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), and condemnation from the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA). The KPCC has committed to reviewing its digital communication controls to prevent future recurrences.
Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar criticized the incident, alleging that the Congress party employs a social media strategy based on lies and fraud inspired by Rahul Gandhi. Chandrasekhar also condemned a planned INDIA bloc rally in New Delhi scheduled for November 1, noting that the date coincides with the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
