Election Commission Extends Electoral Roll Deadlines in Six Regions

The Election Commission of India extended deadlines for electoral roll revisions in Delhi and five states following requests from regional officers and the Supreme Court.

The Election Commission of India extended the deadlines for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Delhi and five states: Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Telangana. The decision followed formal requests from regional Chief Electoral Officers and a request from the Supreme Court of India for the commission to provide voters more time to file claims.

In Delhi, the deadline for filing claims and objections moved from October 30 to November 25, with the final electoral rolls scheduled for publication on December 22. This extension follows the exclusion of 4.756 million electors from the draft rolls published on August 31; as of October 30, the commission had received over 5.7 lakh Form-6 applications for inclusion. The process in Delhi has faced scrutiny from political figures and civil society regarding database changes.

For the other five states, the final electoral rolls will be published on November 30. Specific filing deadlines vary by region, with Maharashtra's claims period ending November 13 and its notice phase closing November 25. Other notice and disposal deadlines include November 20 for Haryana and Andhra Pradesh, November 25 for Nagaland, and November 26 for Telangana. The commission has ordered officials to notify political parties in writing and publicize the revised schedules.
