Magnificent Seven Tech Debt Hits $578 Billion

SBI Research reports that the Magnificent Seven technology companies increased their combined debt to $578 billion by mid-2026 to fund AI infrastructure expansion.

The combined debt of the Magnificent Seven technology companies—Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla—reached $578 billion by mid-2026. According to SBI Research, this figure represents a nearly 45% increase from the $399 billion reported in 2025 and is almost 1.7 times the group's 2023 debt levels.

The surge is driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure. Meta Platforms Incorporated reported $84 billion in long-term debt and over $600 billion in combined leases and contractual commitments as of June 2026, while Alphabet Inc. reported long-term debt of $98.165 billion for the same period. The Bank for International Settlements expects capital expenditure by the five largest U.S. hyperscalers to exceed $800 billion in 2026.

SBI Research warned that rising Treasury yields and borrowing costs could pressure valuations, potentially causing a market capitalization decline between $1.67 trillion and $2 trillion for the group. The report also identified the expected public listing of Anthropic around November 12 as a critical test for the financial viability of the AI boom. Separately, the Federal Reserve System saw unrealized losses on Treasury holdings increase to $561.5 billion by June 2026.
