Congress Receives Permission for Shaheed Minar Tribute Program

West Bengal Congress President Shubhankar Sarkar announced official authorization to hold a tribute program at Shaheed Minar commemorating workers killed in 1993 police firing.

Shubhankar Sarkar, the West Bengal Congress President, announced that the party received official authorization to hold a tribute program at Shaheed Minar in Kolkata. The event commemorates 13 Youth Congress workers killed during police firing on July 21, 1993.

Sarkar criticized Mamata Banerjee for organizing previous anniversaries under a different banner rather than the Congress flag carried by the victims. West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh supported this view, alleging that Banerjee had hijacked the Shaheed Diwas observance.

In a separate action, Member of Parliament Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar of the Nationalist Citizens Party of India wrote to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. She demanded a fresh investigation into the 1993 killings, characterizing the failure to prosecute responsible ministers, bureaucrats, and police officers as a gross miscarriage of justice.
